Autumn is in full swing here. The leaves have been changing and the ground is forming layers of decaying life – that which has been here shining brightly all summer long, and with one last show of fantastic color is finding its way to the Earth where it will continue the process of transformation.
Of decay.
It’s a dying process as the trees let go of what is no longer serving them, allowing it back into the embrace of Mother Nature so that she can hold it and allow it to dissolve into nutrients that will go on to further nourish and support the beautiful cycles of life.
I walk outside, and I am immediately immersed in it. The colors shine their spectacular light on my retina, but more than this, I breathe it in. I inhale, and the essence of decay fills my lung and sends ripples throughout my entire being.
What a strange, yet such immensely beautiful process, don’t you think?
And, as I’m in it, there’s such a deep part of me that wants to be in it all too, fully:
Letting go of that which I’ve been holding onto, no longer here to serve me, and only holding me down until I allow myself to release it,
To give it back into the embrace of sweet Mama Gaia who will take it in, break it down, and allow it to dissolve into the endless expanse where, who knows, perhaps it will find its way as the seed for something new to shine its beauty into the world.
For myself, I have a bit of a list that I am ready to let go of.
And, I’m curious, what would you be willing to let go of, yourself?
I understand, that may sound a bit scary. Why would we let parts of ourselves go of our own free will, to decay into the ground?
The thing is, as we move through life, we accumulate lots of stuff:
- goals
- dreams & desires
- emotionally charged memories
And, often times, these serve us in some way. But at some point we may find that we are holding too much; or, that something that we are holding onto is no longer shining a light in our lives or serving any other useful purpose, and the best path forward would really be for it to be released.
To let it go into the warm embrace of Mother Earth, and to allow it to move on its way so that it can support the world in new ways.
What do you think you may be ready to let go of? Take a moment to think about it. Then, if you’d like, head to the guided meditation to go through the process.
