Meditation is a big word, one that encompasses a broad set of practices.
At its core, meditation is a practice of cultivating awareness for that which is present, gaining skill around where you place your attention and, in turn, becoming skillful of where you are allowing your energy to flow.
Where are you allowing your energy to flow? Is this skillful? Is it draining? Is it actively harmful?
Meditation comes in many, many different forms! How can you really know what practice truly serves you and your highest path?
Hi, I'm Katie Hemphill
As a long-time student of meditation, I've had the honor of cultivating great skill with my mind and its ability to focus and hold awareness. I have cultivated a great mindfulness as I hold the ability to filter out the noise from the signal that matters here and now.
But this is just the beginning.....
While I recognize the importance of mindfulness in relation to meditation, what I really want to speak to you about is the deeper lessons I've learned as I've been tested and transformed by this wild human experience.
These are lessons and teachings that come from a series of diverse wisdom traditions that I have been honored to study, along with my own direct experience as I've worked through common and uncommon paths of life.
Some of these challenges offer beautiful opportunities to stick with practice and work through it all with devotion to a strong and stable practice.
Other times, the challenge that arises is one that demands the ability to adapt and change practice as we find that which serves.
This is where a skilled and experienced teacher becomes most powerful.
In my own experience, I found that the practices that once served greatly ended up causing great harm, or otherwise becoming a waste of time, as I travelled further down this path.
