Less Stress, Healthier You:
A novel, stress-lowing approach to healthier living, mind & body
What if we've been going about health all wrong? What if we were never meant to be perfect, optimized human beings in control of every aspect of our lives, but instead, free from the burdens of the modern world that keeps us stuck and feeling lousy! Learning to release control of what we think we can manipulate, and learning, instead, to see clearly what is within our power!
The reality is....
Your body knows how to take care of itself. It does not need your micro-managing so that it can do its many, many tasks well.
Instead, it needs your support.
It needs you to be knowledgeable of how to nourish it, and it needs you to move in ways that feel good! All without all the stress of doing it perfectly!
Stress - as it turns out, this is the number one factor driving poor health outcomes! Because of this, our work together begins by lowering stress as you release all the clinging and anxiety that is driving you mad. Meanwhile, we begin by becoming grounded in a space from which you can make clear, conscious, and skillful decisions.
There is no such thing as perfect dieting, nor any optimal method of healthy living. There is a reason for this, and it has everything to do with the complexity that is human nature. It has everything to do with the complexity that makes up your physiology.
Hi, I'm Katie Hemphill, a Biomedical Engineer (B.S.E., M.S.) turned Health & Embodiment Coach
Years ago, I was taught that the human body is a machine - one that can be understood to the degree that we can manipulate it for our own gain.
Today, I fight against this model that reduces the rich complexity that makes us human .
I don't do this by throwing out the science nor demonizing useful models of nutrition and pathophysiology. Instead, I work by grounding us in reality that is the vastness of the human body, humbling our egoic minds that seek to control and perfect.
I do this because I value our ability to live life to the fullest above all else! I value our freedom to live the lives that we want to live. Free from health challenges, certainly! Just as well, free from the burden that is the futile attempt to control every aspect of our diet and our health.
You are a human being. It is time to reclaim this as you let go of the stories of need to control and get everything right; and, in its place, embrace a life of freedom to enjoy your body, feel good in it, and have the time and space to do what lights you up!
Metabolic Health
It is one of my deepest desires that humanity have the freedom to live the lives we each want to live, all without the burden of ailments that plague us and keep us battling pain and fatigue.
Your metabolic health is one obvious key to cultivating this! I think about metabolic health as your body's ability to create the energy you need to not only survive, but also thrive!
Do you have the energy that you need to do what you want to do each day? If you answer no, then it's likely that you can benefit from focusing on behaviors that support your body's ability to produce energy (e.g., what you eat, how you move, and how you manage stress)
The other side of the metabolic health coin is the long list of diseases that our modern world knows to well: cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, dementia, and more! Being metabolically healthy doesn't guarantee you a free pass from disease, but it does significantly reduce your risk of developing one.
Metabolic health lives at the core of most of those modern diseases that our world knows too well. When your body loses its ability to regulate energy pathways, pathologies arise throughout the body, at which point medical attention becomes necessary.
By working with your body's systems in charge of regulating energy pathways, you not only feel the immediate effects of more energy, but you are also likely reducing your risk of developing disease down the road.
Mental Health & Well-Being
What is physical health without the ability to feel well in your body?
When I first got started in the world of nutrition and metabolic health, I couldn't stand that every answer to our health challenges seemed to pose a burden on one's mental and emotional body.
I made sure to flip the script: our work together begins by getting you connected into all layers of self, never harming one part for the sake of another.
Here, we act to lower the stressful burden that our modern world has places on our psyche to perfect ourselves and fit some mold that satisfies idealistic versions of a human being.
Here, you get to be you! No longer striving to be anyone else but instead, listening inward for what truly nourishes and supports your body and your whole being.
Here, you heal as whole. What feels good and nourished self must support all aspects of self. Otherwise, you are not only wasting time, but adding extra burden.
How it works:
In our 1:1 work together, I am here to help you deepen into connection with self as we work directly to lower stress, anxiety, and/or overwhelm and find the clarity you need to make grounded, skillful decisions supporting your health:
- mental
- physical
- emotional
- etc.
I view health holistically, and I have a large bag of modalities that we can call upon based on your needs:
- nutrition coaching
- exercise physiology
- yoga therapy
- mindfulness meditation
- body-based meditations
- trauma healing
- nervous system healing
No two people are the same. This is why I love my 1:1 work - because I get to know you for who you are, and never have to try to get you to fit some mold. My techniques are all customizable, and never ask that you make yourself fit one process or protocol.
Here, it is all about knowing you, yourself, and calling upon an abundance of tools and techniques to support your healing, your transformation, and your stepping into an empowered self that is grounded, connected, knowledgeable, and ready to make health-conscious decisions that are fully nourishing and supportive.
The complexities of human health: Staying grounded in reality
I am not a doctor nor any sort of licensed health professional. It is not my job to treat medical conditions nor make any claims about what will treat or prevent disease. See full disclaimer.
What I know is the science, to a great degree, but in no form of perfection. What I also know is what has helped many others in regard to feeling better in their bodies. I welcome in all forms of wisdom and guidance that can help you to feel healthier in your body.
This includes but is not limited to a rigorous self study of nutrition science that I placed on top of my formal education as a Biomedical Engineer (B.S.E., M.S.). Combined, it is my knowledge of human physiology from a breadth of perspectives (systems biology and systems engineering, cellular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, and more).
On top of this is my more recent years of study of embodiment traditions that help us to understand the layered nature of a human being, coming to know us in our holistic nature. This includes, but again is not limited to: yoga and meditation, breathwork, trauma and nervous system healing.
