Yoga

On our journeys chasing after bigger & better things in life, I've found that what we so often truly need is more space:

  • to pause

  • to release

  • to tune back into what really matters

What is it that really matters?

You, here, in this moment.

Yoga is, in part, a path to creating this space.

It is about taking time to pause from all that chasing we tell ourselves is so important - to release it all as we tune into our own selves.

The beautiful irony: in doing so, we often find the clarity that we need to be able to fully take on that very thing we started chasing after in the first place.

I got so tired of the message that we need to keep trying harder

Yoga showed up at a time in my life when I had been pushing and pushing and....

... and I had finally cracked.

It turned out that what I didn't need was more hard work.

Instead, I needed space.

I needed space to learn to listen within: into my own self for deeper, truer answers.

Today, I bring a highly individualized and inward approach to teaching yoga

My "Traditional" Yoga

Yoga takes form through many lineages. My own stems primarily from the T.K.V. Desikachar lineage: one that emphasizes breath and slow, intentional movement.

I put a strong emphasis on developing the skill that is turning inward for guidance through movement, while following the breath for an anxiety-relieving, therapeutic effect.

Yoga can help us to work through specific challenges.

Personally, my deepest challenges have centered on overwhelming anxiety and the long-term effects of trauma. My own explorations and studies in yoga have focused on therapeutic techniques to support healing.

I also offer support for anyone who is struggling to work through health challenges. It can be deeply challenging to find peace and clarity that helps us heal, and I can help support you to release stress & overwhelm so that you can find clarity on solutions that best serve you.

Yoga beyond the mat

It took me years to get myself through a yoga class

I'd spent my twenties immersed in yoga philosophy, loving what I was hearing and reading while seeking a routine practice to support the transformation I knew was possible.

But I had a problem! I just couldn't get myself through a yoga class! I'd roll out the mat, start moving through a series of poses, and my whole being would scream at me to be doing anything but this.

I've learned a lot through completing a series of yoga trainings, and I now know what was happening. If you've experienced something similar, I know just what to do!

We can learn a lot doing a mainstream yoga practice on a sticky mat. We can also experience yoga in other forms.

Personally, my deepest healing occurred when I stepped off the mat and out into nature.

Out here with the mat no longer blocking my connection, I could feet my feet on the ground, breathe deeply with the forest, and immerse myself in the interconnectedness of all of it!

Out here is my favorite way to practice. I'd love to show you how it's done!

Working 1-on-1

Yoga Therapy

As a Yoga Therapist, I am trained to work 1-on-1 to address an individual's health problems, be they mental, physical, emotional, and/or spiritual. Often times, they are a combination of the above, which is why yoga therapy is so powerful to help us work through the challenges arising from within.

Recognizing your unique situation and thinking about your body, mind, breath, and other aspects of yourself that are often overlooked.

Yoga for anxiety and nervous system healing

My personal yoga journey has much to do about relieving anxiety, calming my nervous system, and healing from trauma that would result in panic and shutdown.

My personal struggles led me to learn more about techniques that support healing and anxiety relief, and I am happy to support your journey to do the same.

Are you dealing with overwhelming anxiety and/or wish to discuss how to navigate trauma? Are you interested in learning about a potential for trauma healing?

Yoga for better health

Traditionally trained as a Biomedical Engineer, my path to yoga is one that still befuddles me just a bit. How does a biomedical engineer end up teaching yoga?

It started with a desire to help individuals prevent or work through health problems.

I believe in the power and utility of traditional medical interventions.

I also recognize that yoga and other lifestyle-based traditions can deeply support health and healing.

If you find yourself struggling to work through a health challenge, or if you find yourself overwhelmed and/or anxious when it comes to your health problems, perhaps I can help.

Yoga, for Yoga's sake

Yoga can support us as we work through specific problems or challenges that we wish to address.

Yoga is also whole and complete on its own, and can be brought into our lives as an honored tradition.

I don't believe in one correct way to practice yoga. Instead, I believe that yoga can support our unique lives with an assortment of lineages.
